he United States as a country can do more to protect children according to Michael Petit, president and founder of Every Child Matters Education Fund. Petit points out to the child abuse and neglect death numbers in the U.S. outnumbering other first world nations like Canada, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, and Germany.
It is estimated five children die daily from child abuse and neglect, but Petit says “experts believe the real number may be as much as 50 percent higher due to inconsistent record-keeping and different definitions of abuse and neglect in the states.”
Petit wants to see federal funding that protects children in every state. “While it’s too late to help the children already killed, we can honor their memories by vowing to protect every child in danger,” he said.
